Or more specifically.........
Colby has been getting in some trouble at school for spreading germs through his thumb sucking habit. He's even been known to wipe his wet thumb on other kids. (I'm trying to forget about that one.) A couple months ago I bought a cloth thumb guard type thing, it's a fingerless glove except for the thumb. There was a hole in the thumb fabric before we'd had it one day. Then more recently he had to go talk to the director of his preschool about needing to not suck his thumb at school. So....I broke down and ordered the nasty nail polish stuff. Before that we told him Santa wasn't going to bring him a present unless he stopped, so he WANTED to stop, he just couldn't do it. Then we prepared him, told him we were going to get nail polish that was going to make his thumb taste really gross. He was okay with it because he wanted to stop. I've read it takes 3 weeks to completely break the habit, and it hasn't been 3 yet, but he has stopped so far!!! Even when I don't reapply the nail polish when I should. Even when he's asleep. I was carrying him to his bed on day when he'd fallen asleep and I saw his thumb start to move towards his mouth and then he stopped. It's such a relief.

That is so awesome!! Where did you get that stuff? I need to try that with Grace. I don't think she sucks her thumb at school, but she suck it at home all the time.
YAAAAAAAAY!!!!!
That is huge. Nice work Colby. Carter is also a thumbsucker, but only when he has a certain blanket so I'm hoping it won't be too hard to break when the time comes.
i think we bought that nasty stuff otc. times change don't they. really good work colby. i remember when i told leslie she had to quit sucking her thumb. she understood and wanted to stop, and she came up to me and said--this is really hard. i encouraged her, and she stopped. cold turkey. that girl has resolve!
p.s. i forgot to add--colby, i am so, so, so proud of you. that is a really hard thing to do. love, grandma
yay for colby!
Good job Colby, that is awesome. Maybe you can help my Layla stop. We actually got her to stop sucking her fingers...now she sucks her thumb. sigh. what do ya do?
Good job Colby! As I recall, we tried that toxic tasting stuff on your aunt Becky when she was your age, and she just sucked it off her thumb and kept going. She was a recalcitrant, intractable thumb sucker. That's one bone-head name, but that's no you no mo.
