Weekly Poll Question

So we had a decent turn out last week, and I think we have established the inferiority of the VHS, no one has watched anything in the last month on VHS. Interesting.

Now this weeks. Given my new climate change, everything to me is based on temperature. So I want to know what is the ultimate water toy. This might be a little unfair since income can be a factor. For me, I'm going with the good old slip n' slide. I cant think of a better summer day than sliding down my belly in the back yard. The attached video will be my backup here.

The Alamo and the Riverwalk

Downtown San Antonio is so incredible!!! I never expected so much, but I love it!!! Everyone talked about the Riverwalk, but I never could have guessed how great it would be.
We ate at the Rainforest Cafe (like true tourists) and went on a boat ride down the river, learning about some of the buildings and history. They have a historical committee, and the tour guide told us that Marriott (I think it was Marriott) wanted to build a hotel and tear down an old one, and they wouldn't let them, so they MOVED the building and built a new one in it's place. The old hotel is still running somewhere downtown. I didn't pay that great attention to details, sorry.
We didn't get to learn that much about the Alamo, the kids would never have let that happen, but it was still cool to see. Much smaller than I thought it was going to be.
Here are some pictures:

Beautiful, I'm telling you.Colby and Eva got creative at lunch. On the far left you can see Eva doing the same thing as Colby. She is copying everything he does lately. It was so hot, I felt so bad for the kids. And none of them got sunburned, yay!Eva became best friends with the girl she was sitting by. She kept putting her hand on her leg, and when the girl was looking at her cell phone she would lean over and look at it with her. It was so sweet. She's never really taken to a stranger like that before.

Weekly Poll

Check out my weekly poll question.
I was just thinking, when was the last time that I watched something on video, rather than DVD or online. In fact, we just had all our VHS videos stored away for a year. Now I'm getting them out and thinking, do I even still have a VCR?
Check back for results and a new question next week.
Jason

Our projects of the week

Jason's projects:
Install new fridge (Shoooooooooooot, a few days after we found out the hard way that the water tube we were using was leaking, and ruined the cabinet next to it. Luckily it was leaking down the tube, and not in the wall. AND luckily, we were planning on getting new cabinet fronts, so we'll just be replacing that cabinet completely.)

Install new microwave (Wait, I have to tear out the hood vent. Wait, I have to install a cabinet above to drill the microwave into.)
Install new oven (Wait, I have to fix the gas outlet to have an on/off valve. Wait, someone cut off the gas supply to the stove, I have to call a handy man to fix it...too much work.)
Set up furniture
Hook up washer and dryer
Hang the TV

Poor Jason........you hear about things going wrong with remodels, but never expect it to happen to you. He got so close to finishing things before he got held up with something new.

Dana's projects:
Watch the kids
Take off the shutters, paint them, hang them back up (the before, during, and after shots)
(Dad, does this make you proud? ^^)
Unpack when possible
Put together the desk/bookcase
Find furniture on Craigslist (kitchen table and dresser for the girls, still to find: futon or bed for guest room/office)
Laundry
Grocery shopping, stocking up again
Take Colby to the doctor - ear infection, poor boy :(

Melissa's projects:
Unpack
Unpack
Unpack And pretty much all that is left......which needs to go in the garage when it's organized. Breakdown the cardboard
Breakdown the cardboard
Breakdown the cardboard
(This is just one of the piles. Garbage comes twice a week here, down our alley, how awesome is that?) Wash dishes
Wash dishes
Wash dishes
Decorate Colby's room Decorate family room
And.....do her paid work, to top it all off.

We are SO lucky to have Melissa here. I don't think 1/2 (maybe 3/4) of what has been unpacked would have been done without her. Thanks to her I am not going to be completely overwhelmed when Jason starts his new job, which is tomorrow. I'm so glad he had the week off.
She has been able to have a little fun. Yesterday we went to check out the Alamo and the Riverwalk. More on that later.

When we first got here, everyone was pooped. Especially after unloading the truck in 100+ degrees. The kids love the house, and so does Quin. We're loving it more and more, too. I had some idea, but am finding out more and more that we are in such a good location!! We are within 5 miles of almost every single thing we need to get to (Jason's work being the exception, that's about 15 miles away.)

We went to our new ward today. It's going to be great! It's a little bit smaller ward, they split it a few months ago. It's called the Randolph ward because it includes the Randolph Air Force base. Funny story, towards the end of sacrament meeting I saw a girl walk back into the chapel with her baby, and I say to Jason, "They are in the 2nd ward!!!" (The ward we went to in Pocatello.) I was pretty sure it was them, but I thought for sure I was wrong, because what are the chances? Anyway......turns out it was Emily and Rueben from the Pocatello 2nd ward!!! This is their 4th year coming to San Antonio for the summer to sell pest control. What a small world.

It has been hard to adjust to the weather here. The first couple of days it was so hot, I think into the 100s, and our house hadn't completely cooled back down from having the air off for however long. For the last 2 or 3 days it's been cooler and a lot easier to handle.

We just went for a nice walk in a calm, quiet neighborhood and I decided I love it here. It's the perfect place for us right now.

The drive down

Leaving Idaho.......
Utah
Somewhere in Utah
Colorado
New Mexico. Like the bullet holes in the sign? Nice touch. Somewhere in New MexicoAnd the mother of all state signs...........TEXAS!!!!!! We thought it was hilarious when we saw this one compared to all of the other states signs. I guess everything is bigger in Texas.

It has been a long week of unpacking (I'd say we're 90% done, thanks to Melissa) and the tinest bit of sight-seeing. More of that will come. (I copied Becky and Ray on the state sign pictures, thanks for the idea!)

Birthday Party!!

Eva turned 2 yesterday! It's like she somehow knows she's supposed to be in the terrible two's now. She and Colby have been getting into EVERYTHING lately. I mean everything. Nail polish stain on the carpet, torn up envelopes, bathroom mess with toilet paper everywhere, butter on furniture, yogurt on furniture....need I go on? :) Anyway, she didn't really get a birthday party when she turned 1, so we made this a fun one! We rented a big jump house (Tina's brilliant party idea!) and cotton candy machine. We invited all of the neighbor kids, (not one of them is even close to Colby or Eva's age) and a couple more friends. We had a great time! Eva loved her birthday cake frosting. We're really going to miss Lexie and Tori, they are neighbor girls who always babysit for us. Colby and Eva love them so much, and they're always willing to come over on short notice. Hopefully we can find a babysitter we like as much in Texas.
The cotton candy was a HUGE hit! I don't think I've had so much sugar in years! My mom was great with the cotton candy machine. None of us had any idea how to do it, but she figured it out quick enough.
^^Lexie & Tori!

Party tip: I saw this in a magainze and used it for Eva's party. For invitations get some balloons, blow them up and write the invite on them and let the air out. Then people get the invitation and blow them up to read the invitation. I had a couple of the parents tell me their kids played with them all week before the party.

Texas Bound!

Thursday we loaded up our moving truck. Well....by we I mean Jason and some guys from church. It wasn't too bad, considering 7/8ths of our things were in storage. In 6 days we'll be leaving Pocatello for the Lone Star state! We're so excited, but I'm sure this last week is going to fly by too fast.

In the meantime...check out Lilia's hair! I pulled back some bangs into a clip for the first time and this is what it looked like when I took it out of her hair.

I'm a Blogger!

Becky, Ray, and their family moved to Spokane a week ago. They didn't think they were going to be able to drive through Pocatello, but they decided to at the last minute. They stayed a day and we had such a good time seeing them! Grace and Colby played together the whole time. Eva tagged along sometimes too. After they left, for 3 or 4 days Colby would ask, "Where's Grace, Elliot, Maggie, Becky, Ray?" And we can't forget Max, who Eva called Quin. Quin enjoyed Max's company too. It's too bad we all can't live close to family....

I'm finally starting a blog (obviously) since we're moving away from home. The family blog has been fun, and I really think it's a great way to keep in touch with family and friends...so here it is.
