Time to Break Out the Tools

Since we got home approximately 5 days ago it has been non-stop renovation in our house. Let me tell you what has been crossed off the "To Do List". (Abby, is that appropriate use of quotation marks?) One of the hardest things was done before we got home. My friend Janae was staying in our house while we were in Idaho and she painted our living room, which involved standing on the "don't step on this step" step of a ladder while painting with a q-tip taped to a toothbrush, or something like that. Yeah, have I mentioned how much I'm going to miss Janae?

Done on the "To Do"
-Paint bedroom
-Bedroom decorations
-Make headboard
-Replace light fixtures in pantry area, laundry room, closet, 2 hallways, kitchen
-New sconces on 3 ceiling fans
-Paint bathroom cabinets (ALMOST done in 1st bathroom)
-Take down blinds in front room
-Order hardware for doors
-Finish trim in kitchen
-clean out kids closets

Still left "To Do"
-sod in backyard patchy areas
-front yard landscaping
-clean carpets
-paint cabinets in kids' bathroom
-buy and install hardware for cabinet doors
-install hardware on interior doors
-touch up paint on ceilings and walls, some popcorn texture is going back on the kitchen ceiling, as much as it pains me
and a bunch of other little stuff....I just realized this was getting boring.

So, the headboard........AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I (and Jason) painted the wall behind our bed a teal-ish color right after we moved into our house with the intentions of painting the rest of the room white and getting a black headboard with white and black decorations. A year later...DONE. And a year was a long time, that teal did NOT look good with the tan/khaki color on the walls. I LOVE MY BEDROOM! Thank you Jason for giving me a headboard after 3 1/2 years of having our king size bed. I picked the color and fabric for the headboard, but Jason did all the work--Alex, my brother-in-law, helped out some too, thanks Alex. :)

The kitchen looks SO much better with the lighting!! We decided to do track lighting and I didn't realize the kitchen could look that much better, but it does.
Before:During:I know this picture is blurry, but don't you just love the smile on Jason's face from holding the skill saw, or whatever that thing is called. After:
One of these days I'll blog about our trip home. It was wonderful and not long enough. It was so sad leaving. Someday we'll be back though, for good!

WOW Dana!! Your house looks sooo good!! I love your bedroom too!! Why is it that we always make our house look the best right before we have to move??

I was just lamenting the same thing as Becky. When you sell your house, it's going to be AMAZING. But I get the feeling y'all get some enjoyment out of fixing up a place...eh? Will you paint your new bedroom the same as the one you have now, so you can fully enjoy your new headboard?

I'm almost embarrassed to be the quotations nazi, but since you asked, you'd just put quotes around "To Do." And if we really want to get picky, the period always goes on the inside of the quotes. Sigh. I'm a geek. :)

I love your bedroom, too! It looks so good! The lighting in the kitchen looks great, too. I can't believe you have to sell your house, that really sucks. :o(

That is gorgeous, and... YOU ARE MOVING?! I really had no idea! When and where?

It does look fantastic (particularly the kitchen, I am slightly jealous)!

Hey, J, when you get moved and settled in come over to my house. You can help motivate Colin a little bit on the bathroom. Oh wait, Colin IS motivated. He just has no time. Serious, you should come on out and I bet you two could knock it out in just a few day. Dana, you and I will head for the hotel. We only have one bathroom with a shower. It looks awesome!!!
